چکیده

SUMMARY The European Network for Inspection and Qualification (ENIQ) is a utility driven network that works towards a harmonized European approach on reliable and effective in-service inspection (ISI). In particular, ENIQ task groups work on issues related to the qualification of ISI systems (task group on qualification, TGQ) and to risk-informed in-service inspection (RI-ISI) (task groups on risk, TGR). After achieving a major milestone with the publication of the European Framework Document on RI-ISI in 2005, ENIQ TGR has been recently working at producing more detailed recommended practices and discussion documents on several RI-ISI related issues, such as defence-in-depth, guidance for expert panels, verification and validation of structural reliability models and RI-ISI application to pressure vessels and internals. Another important activity initiated within ENIQ TGR and currently under development is a project aimed at linking Inspection qualification and RI-ISI, to investigate and demonstrate an approach able to provide some quantitative measure of the confidence derived from inspection qualification, and to allow risk reduction associated with a qualified inspection to be calculated. Finally, TGR initiated in January 2006 a project together with the European Commission's Joint Research Centre and Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD aimed at benchmarking RI-ISI methodologies (RISMET project). Several international organisations, utilities and regulators are participating in this project, which should reach a conclusion towards the end of 2007. The aim of this paper is to review and explain these activities of ENIQ TGR.

The link between risk-informed in-service inspection and inspection qualification

A growing need exists for a quantitative measure of inspection effectiveness as an input to quantitative riskinformed in-service inspection (RI-ISI). A Probability of Detection (POD) curve could provide a suitable metric, but there can be significant problems associated with generating realistic POD curves by practical trials. The ENIQ inspection qualification methodology is used to provide hig...

A review of worldwide practice and experience in the qualification of ultrasonic inspections of nuclear components over the past two decades

Inspection qualification is the term currently used to describe the process of independent assessment of a specific non-destructive test to ensure that it is capable of meeting its objectives. Such activities carried out on the Sizewell B reactor inspections were referred to as validation. In the USA, the term performance demonstration is used, though this is increasingly being reserved for the...

Importance measures in ranking piping components for risk informed in-service inspection

Risk informed in-service inspection aims at prioritising the components for inspection within the permissible risk level thereby avoiding unnecessary inspections. Various methods have been evolved for prioritisation, in which the importance measure approach has gained a wide popularity. This paper presents an importance measure that can be employed to prioritise components of any dimension, whi...

A comprehensive framework for evaluation of piping reliability due to erosion-corrosion for risk-informed inservice inspection

Risk-Informed In-Service Inspection (RI-ISI) aims at prioritizing the components for inspection within the permissible risk level thereby avoiding unnecessary inspections. The two main factors that go into the prioritization of components are failure frequency and the consequence of the failure of these components. The study has been focused on piping component as presented in this paper. Failu...

NRC inspections: risk-informed and performance-based.

In 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) revised its regulations governing the use of byproduct materials for medical purposes (10 CFR Part 35). These changes were the result of a detailed, 4-year examination of the issues surrounding the medical use program of the NRC and are stated in the latest revision to its medical policy statement, published in the Federal Register on August...
